STREET STYLE TRENDS MILAN FASHION WEEK

It’s become redundant to name the transparent and no-pants trends; looking at Milan Fashion Week’s hottest street style trends, many have moved on from there. Of course, these trends have become part of the daily wardrobes of the fashion crowds, but there’s more to add to next season’s looks. A certain playfulness filled the runways with a new energy, as witnessed on the streets of Italy’s fashion capital. Red remains a common denominator of many looks, while a new shade of green has more recently entered the conversation. Brown leather also infiltrates the color palette, where bag charms add a playful note to any look. Then there’s double denim, which this season does not equal double trouble. So, forget the prejudices about the Canadian Tuxedo, famously worn by Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in 2001, because the style has evolved from there. So, there are no Y2K aesthetics involved here (except for some looks, but double denim isn’t part of it), but more sophisticated ways to wear your favorite fabric. Find an overview of the chicest yet playful street style trends below that perfectly captures the season’s mood – all spotted by our street style photographer, Caroline Kynast.

RED

Fifty Shades of Red isn’t over yet—although, this season, it comes with a nuance. Our photographer on the scene, Caroline Kynast, spotted several shades combined in more resourceful ways than ever before. Where red and black combinations used to belong to the past, this one is back in business. That is, this fusion is used in more formal ways, with office siren or geek chic (see below) as a common denominator.

GEEK CHIC

Geek chic is the new office siren—the new way of corporate dressing, so to speak. A dash (or lots) of lace, Y2K bags, oversized blazers, and geeky shoes (like Tabis) form the red thread. Unsurprisingly, this aesthetic is popular among Italian women; Gucci and Miu Miu were the houses where the trend originated.

BROWN LEATHER

Forget Matrix-like leather looks (for now). This season, fashion people are diving into the 1970s for inspiration. From cognac-hued leather trenchcoats to worn-out leather biker jackets (out there for a few seasons now), they’re all così elegante.

BAG CHARMS

ICYMI: Bag charms are the new black. The micro accessory has been trending, but bag charms are relatively new. It would be best if you thanked Miu Miu’s Miuccia Prada for the trend’s resurgence. Not only do bag charms create a scene this season, but so do fully stuffed bags – also thanks to the fashion house. On TikTok, the trend is referred to as Jane Birkin-ifying bags, but in the end, it’s nothing more than adding a dash of nostalgia to your favorite handbag. Make it personal by adding scarves, keychains, and jewelry that personify your style.

DOUBLE DENIM

As mentioned before, double denim doesn’t equal double trouble, as it used to be when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wore it at the 2001 American Music Awards. The new take on the Canadian Tuxedo has more of Pharell Williams for Louis Vuitton than pop icons in the early aughts.

GREEN

Green has been around for years, returning to the streets thanks to Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta. Not only did he revamp the Italian house, but he also created a new image of the color green. Of course, green still symbolizes new beginnings, growth, vibrancy, nature, and other ideas connected with life, rebirth, and renewal. Therefore, it comes at no surprise that the shade gains popularity this season – conscious statement or not.
