Photographer Lucka Ngo grew up in Czech Republic, close to the German border. Her parents moved there from Vietnam, to enhance their business opportunities. When Ngo was 9 years old, her brother left for New York City, in search for opportunities and success. When he got back after a few months, he brought a camera with him. That specific moment has been a turning point for Ngo, since she started to capture everyday moments from then on.
Just as for her brother, the American Dream also appeared to her, when she got a place to stay at a foster family in Texas, to attend high school in the US. After graduating, she decided to study fashion and moved to New York City.
Instagram & success
Once she moved to New York City, Ngo went on with capturing what she calls ‘real people’. She captured people with a certain cool style, one that reflects her own style. We would call it a mix of street style with authentic details and a minimalistic approach. Ngo posted these ‘real people’ on her Instagram and met many others via this platform. This is where her success started. Since then, she has collaborated with big names such as Patta, Converse, Highsnobiety and Hypebeast. Not the least, if you ask us.
Feelings & realness
Emotions, feelings and realness is what Ngo wants to capture in every frame. She does this on film and by making use of black-and-white photography. It releases feelings on screen, according to her. In line with this, Ngo prefers to shoot people who don’t have to pose, but rather are very natural in front of the camera. The one who’s in front of her lens, should stick to who he or she is. This way of working creates very authentic, strong, unique and raw pictures. Something we find very refreshing on our Instagram walls today. Keep up the good work!
